kitchenThere are many kitchen remodeling ideas that are low cost or eco-friendly and won’t put you out of your kitchen for weeks at a time.  Many people believe they have to hire a kitchen contractor and spend a lot of money in order to get good results to update their kitchen.

One of the easiest and best ideas to update your kitchen’s look without spending a lot of money is to paint the kitchen cabinets.  Many people fail to consider this option, despite countless older homes often have painted carpenter built cabinets that have stood decades of use.

Thanks to 100% acrylic enamels that cleans up with soap and water and produce little odor during application, the process is easier than ever to paint your kitchen cabinets.

Preparation is the key to making your kitchen cabinets look as if a professional painted them.  The better end results you will have if you are better prepared.  Be sure to cover all granite kitchen countertops and any appliances that are underneath the cabinets with a drop cloth.

Remove all the drawers, one by one, and have a labeling system on the back of the drawers so when it comes time to replace them, you will know which drawer goes where.  The same goes for the cabinets, take each door off one by one and label them beginning from the left to the right with a number or letter.  Remove all the handles and place all the screws in a Ziploc baggie and put in a safe place for when the painting is completed.

Use grease cutting cleaner to wash down all the cabinets, inside and out, including the doors and drawers, and then rinse the surfaces and allow them to dry thoroughly.

It is now time to paint your cabinets.  Begin by painting the inside of the cabinets using a small roller, then the drawers.  Paint a broad surface and then let it dry before painting the edges.

With a new coat of paint, your kitchen cabinets will help your kitchen to look brand-new.
