Society Shuns Hoarders; St. Pete Storage Units Help Collectors De-Clutter

Many people use personal storage in St. Pete to hide the fact that they have too much stuff or they are closet hoarders who cannot help but collect things. Society frowns on people who accumulate too much stuff, although many people do not realize it is a psychological issue that trained psychiatrists or psychologists could help a person de-clutter their life.

A normal person may collect stamps, baseball hats or figurines; however society frowns upon people who collect or hoard items like Dominos Pizza boxes, newspapers or magazines, empty pasta containers, broken pencils or basically anything they feel they might need in the future and just cannot throw the items out.  They collect items in excess and have 20, 30 or more of the same item because they just can’t bring themselves to throw these items out.

People who feel the need to collect or hoard items were often poor or denied things in their childhood or at other times during their lives.  They feel a great need to collect things even if they now have money to buy these things several times over.

St. Pete storage units could be of great assistance to someone who is trying to regain control over their life in the clutter that has taken over their space.  By moving much of the unnecessary items to a storage facility where the items are out of sight will help a person to clean out their house and start fresh by moving toward a collection free home.  Society places value on cleanliness and clutter free homes and people who collect or hoard items feel as if they have let society down.  They are often ashamed and do not allow company to come to their home because of their accumulated clutter.

A self storage unit is not the only answer for someone who hoards or collects clutter; however it is one answer to helping them get on the right track.  Once they have cleaned out their home and put most of their items in a storage unit, a person would be more likely to want to keep their home clean and clutter free than continually bring in more clutter or collections of useless items.  Some psychologists refer to collecting and hoarding as a form of OCD – obsessive-compulsive disorder.  People cannot help this type of disorder without proper psychological intervention.

By placing many of the unnecessary collections of a hoarder into a self storage facility, the de-cluttering of this person’s house will begin. That is the first step in helping to cure this type of compulsion to collect and hoard things.
