There has always been a part of society that cared more about our planet and the environment than others.  However, in today’s society more and more people are becoming eco-friendly and wanting to help save the Earth by staying in green hotels, driving hybrid cars, recycling, reusing and curtailing their wasteful ways.

Society has discovered that the Earth is a delicate ball of energy that needs to be taken care of for future generations and not used up by this generation.  The Earth’s resources are not limitless as once thought.  Environmentalists, scientists and even economists prove every day that the Earth’s resources are dwindling.  Global warming is a grave issue and people need to take a serious look at their individual carbon footprint in order to see what is happening to the Earth.

Everyone can do their part in order to save the planet no matter what their status in society may be.  It does not take a lot of money in order to save the Earth.  Recycling does not cost anything, and in some places companies will even pay for aluminum cans collected for recycling.  Shopping at thrift stores for used clothing and other used items like kitchen appliances, living room furniture or Christmas decorations has become trendy and chic.

Saving gasoline or other fuels by taking public transportation or carpooling is one way to save money as well as the environment.  Trading in a gas guzzling SUV for hybrid rental cars is another way to save money, energy and gasoline.  Even some airlines are switching from the more expensive jet fuel to a more eco-friendly agricultural-based biofuel which is a special blend of jatropha and algae plants.  These are second-generation biofuels that are much more reliable than those with ethanol made with corn or soybeans.

The United States society is going green slower than many European countries however we are doing our best to catch up.  For example, last year China banned all plastic bags. Therefore, reusable grocery totes must be purchased and used on all trips to the grocer or market.  Here in the United States reusable grocery totes are popping up in almost every store as a viable alternative to the plastic or paper bags.  Reusable grocery totes, many made from recycled fibers, is just one way in which people can help save the environment.

Even some of the major corporations and large amusement parks like Disneyland have gone green by using paper products instead of Styrofoam or plastic and recycle and reuse such things as costumes and set decorations.  Additionally, they purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables whenever possible for their cafeteria or restaurants.

Going totally green may be difficult for some; however everyone can go a little green in order to save our planet.

Society has placed a double standard on its major athletes and celebrities.  Major athletes are to perform extremely well; however as a society we are disappointed when we find out they have used performance-enhancing drugs such as steroids or a human growth hormones. But, as a society, we want our celebrities and Broadway stars to look youthful and beautiful. Therefore, we turn the other cheek when they use something like HGH or human growth hormones.  Even those who perform at Disneyland – the ones outside of a character costume – need to remain youthful and glowing.

A human growth hormone also known as HGH is a natural occurring hormone within the body that begins at birth to help a person grow taller and helps their bones, cartilage and muscles develop.  Once a person hits their 20s, the pituitary gland stops working as much so the aging process can begin.  People who want to stay younger looking and feel better use a human growth hormone either prescribed by a doctor or purchased through the Internet.

Many high school and college athletes are beginning to use human growth hormones as a prelude to hard-core steroid use.  Human growth hormones are virtually undetected by most steroid testing, and many athletes feel that since HGH is a natural occurring hormone within the body it cannot be harmful to them.  However, there are many side effects of HGH. Side effects include Corporal Tunnel Syndrome, joint pain and arthritis like symptoms which could lead to obesity because of inactivity from the pain, insulin resistance which could lead to diabetes, bloating, headaches, muscle pain, high blood pressure, abnormal growth of internal organs and bones, hardening of the arteries and several other health issues that have yet to be determined because long-term use of HGH is still being studied for its side effects.

Human growth hormones are banned from many sports even though the science is not conclusive on whether or not HGH actually helps an athlete’s endurance during a performance.  Scientists can not agree that HGH, which could make someone feel stronger, actually helps someone perform better on an athletic field.

Besides athletes and movie stars, human growth hormones could be administered to children with Turner’s syndrome, kidney failure and those who for one reason or another are short stature, in addition to helping adults with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia pain.  HGH is also helpful in maintaining weight loss, helping re-grow hair in balding people, increasing one’s libido and working as a natural antidepressant.

Society as a form does not accept any type of steroids including human growth hormones when it comes to athletes, especially those in college or high school.  However, society does look the other way when a major celebrity proclaims HGH is responsible for his or her youthful appearance.

In today’s society of “get it done fast” and “get it done now,” more and more people are using their cell phones everywhere they go including in the car.  Study after study has shown that using a cell phone while driving is very distracting and is the cause of many accidents on today’s busy highways.  There are laws in the works to prevent drivers from using their cell phones as they drive; however this will not stop many people, especially young people and business people, from using their cell phones while they drive.  One way to help prevent accidents is to help distracted drivers by alerting them to various traffic signs using solar powered signs wherever possible.

Solar powered traffic signs help save lives by alerting distracted drivers to traffic signs with flashing LED lights powered by the sun.  A missed stop sign can have a devastating effect on more than one car or pedestrian at a street crossing; however by placing a solar powered stop sign with the flashing LED lights at each corner, more accidents will be prevented because the flashing LED lights will help attract the attention of distracted drivers and they will hopefully heed the warning of the sign.

A solar traffic sign could not only save lives but save communities thousands of dollars on their budget because solar powered signs use the sun’s power to generate the flashing LED lights instead of pricey electrical cords which would run up an electric bill.  Additionally, power cords or extension cords are not needed for the solar powered signs; therefore making them safer to use than their counterparts that do use extension cords to run flashing lights to help warn drivers.

Distracted drivers can be found everywhere people and vehicles are used.  When you add pedestrians to the mix, fatalities and devastating consequences could be a waiting around the corner.  Solar powered traffic signs could be custom-made to fit any business such as the highway department, farm lands, construction areas or even a Georgia fly fishing area where ATVs and golf carts and pedestrians coexists on the back roads.

Society will always have distracted drivers, whether they are on their cell phone or laws are passed banning cell phone use in vehicles, there will always be a distraction for drivers and one of the solutions is solar powered traffic signs.

Many people who wear hearing aids are self-conscious, not only about being able to hear what people are saying but about how they look as well.  Society has placed high standards on the way people look, and this makes someone who uses any type of aid, including eyeglasses, feel self-conscious or bad about themselves.  If you look in the grocery stores checkout aisles at all the magazines, all of the models are beautiful and none of them are wearing eyeglasses.  However, it would be hard to tell if they were wearing a hearing aid because with today’s advanced technology, hearing aids are much smaller and fit more comfortably inside the ear canal rather than hanging on the outside of the ear. 

The deaf community has their own place of higher learning, Gallaudet University. They also have Marlee Matlin, an award-winning actress who became deaf at 18 months old due to an attack of Roseola Infantum.  However, there are many hard of hearing actors, actresses and community leaders that do not go public with their hearing loss for fear society will shun them.  Most people who suffer from a hearing loss have a voice in place because they have heard words spoken; however their voice changes because they cannot hear their own voice at times without the assistance of a hearing aid.

A hearing loss cannot be reversed; however many people have tried human growth hormones in order to help them feel younger in addition to helping reverse the aging process.  Many people believe, although there is no scientific proof, that a human growth hormone could stop the aging process.

Hearing aids have come a long way since the days of a large transistor radio style box that was taped to one’s chest and had two wires connecting up to the ears.  Society used to treat people who wore these large style hearing aids as if they were somehow not as smart as hearing people. However, their learning ability and IQ had nothing to do with their hearing loss.  People who worked in a hearing clinic would be the most understanding of a hearing impaired person’s plight against society and what it considers “the norm.”

As a whole, society is more accepting of people who wear dentures or eyeglasses than they are of someone who wears a hearing aid.  Somewhere along the line, hearing aids have gotten a “bad rap” even though they are a much needed medical device. Even the use of prescription drugs are more acceptable than hearing aids.

If the hearing impaired community had a spokesperson, like the deaf community has Marlee Matlin, then more people would be accepting of someone who wears hearing aids.
